Home/Services/Rewiring Services

Rewiring with Care and Precision

Rewiring a home is a significant undertaking that requires expertise, planning, and respect for your property. Our rewiring services cover everything from full house rewires to partial upgrades for extensions, renovations, and technology retrofits. We specialise in working within period properties and luxury homes where preserving original features is essential.

Our teams use dust extraction, carpet protection, and careful cable routing to minimise disruption and protect your interiors. In period properties in Kensington, Chelsea, and Hampstead, we use specialist techniques to fish cables through existing voids and conduits rather than chasing original plasterwork. Where chasing is unavoidable, we use the smallest possible channels and make good with matching materials.

A rewire is also the ideal opportunity to install smart home infrastructure. While walls are open, we can install Cat6a data cabling, speaker cable, and control wiring for lighting and automation systems at a fraction of the cost of retrofitting later. We coordinate the smart home and electrical designs to ensure all infrastructure is installed in a single phase, future-proofing your property for decades.

Rewiring FAQs

How do I know if my home needs rewiring?

Signs that your home may need rewiring include rubber or fabric-insulated cables (pre-1960s wiring), round-pin sockets, light switches with round faceplates, a fuse box with rewirable fuses rather than MCBs, frequent tripping of circuit breakers, flickering lights, burning smells from sockets or switches, and discoloured or warm socket faceplates. If your property is more than 25 years old and has never been rewired, we recommend an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) to assess the current state of the wiring.

How long does a full house rewire take?

A full rewire for a typical three to four bedroom property takes 5 to 10 days depending on the size, the number of circuits, and the complexity of the installation. Larger properties with more rooms and circuits may take 2 to 3 weeks. We work in phases to minimise disruption, completing one area before moving to the next. The property is habitable throughout the rewire, though some rooms may be temporarily without power while work is in progress.

Will rewiring cause a lot of mess?

Rewiring inevitably involves some disruption, as cables need to be routed through walls, floors, and ceilings. We use dust extraction equipment, protective floor coverings, and careful cable routing to minimise mess. In period properties, we use specialist techniques to fish cables through existing voids and conduits rather than chasing plaster. We make good all cable routes with appropriate filler and leave the property clean and tidy on completion. Decoration after rewiring is typically required, and we can recommend trusted decorators.

Can you rewire a property while it is occupied?

Yes, we regularly rewire occupied properties. We work in phases, completing one area at a time to ensure the rest of the property remains functional. We schedule work to minimise disruption to daily routines and ensure power is restored to each area before moving on. For families with young children or vulnerable occupants, we take extra care to maintain safe conditions throughout the project. We discuss the work schedule in detail before starting to ensure it fits your lifestyle.

Do you install smart home cabling during a rewire?

Absolutely, and a rewire is the ideal opportunity to install smart home infrastructure. While walls are open and cables are being replaced, we can install Cat6a data cabling, speaker cable, HDMI conduit, and control wiring for lighting and automation systems. This first-fix approach is far more cost-effective than retrofitting smart home cabling after decoration. We coordinate the smart home and electrical designs to ensure all infrastructure is installed in a single phase.

What certification do you provide after rewiring?

We provide an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) for all new wiring installations. This certificate confirms that the installation complies with BS7671 and is required by insurance companies, mortgage lenders, and building control. We also notify the local building control authority under Part P of the Building Regulations. All certificates are provided in digital and paper format. For properties being sold, the EIC provides buyers with assurance that the electrical installation is safe and compliant.

Which areas do you cover for rewiring services?

We provide rewiring services throughout London and the Home Counties. In London we cover Chelsea, Kensington, Mayfair, Belgravia, Knightsbridge, Notting Hill, Hampstead, and Canary Wharf. In Hertfordshire we serve St Albans, Watford, Rickmansworth, and Harpenden. In Surrey we cover Guildford, Weybridge, Cobham, and the Wentworth Estate.
