Commercial Fibre Optic Installation
High-bandwidth infrastructure for modern business
Enterprise-Grade Fibre for Commercial Properties
Modern commercial properties demand network infrastructure that can support cloud services, video conferencing, building management systems and high-density wireless coverage without compromise. Vertex AV designs and installs commercial fibre optic networks that provide the bandwidth, latency and reliability that businesses require today, with headroom for the applications of tomorrow.
Our commercial fibre installations typically begin with a site survey and bandwidth audit. We assess your current network utilisation, identify bottlenecks, and design a fibre backbone that addresses both present needs and projected growth. For new office fit-outs in Canary Wharf and the City of London, we work with architects and M&E consultants during the design stage to coordinate cable routes, equipment room locations and containment systems with the wider building services.
We install OM4 multimode fibre as our standard for internal building backbones, providing support for 10Gb, 40Gb and 100Gb Ethernet over the distances typically found in commercial properties. For inter-building links, campus networks and connections to carrier handover points, we specify OS2 single-mode fibre that supports virtually unlimited bandwidth over kilometres rather than metres. All fibre is terminated in professional LC or MTP panels with clear labelling, and every strand is tested with a Fluke CertiFiber Pro to verify insertion loss and return loss against the relevant standard.
In multi-tenant buildings around Southwark and Camden, we frequently install blown fibre systems that allow individual tenants to add or change fibre cores without disturbing other occupants. This approach reduces the disruption of future moves and changes, and it allows building owners to offer fibre connectivity as a managed service. We also install armoured direct-burial fibre for external routes between buildings, car parks and security gatehouses, ensuring resilience against ground movement, water ingress and rodent damage.
Beyond the physical cabling, we manage the critical interface between your internal network and external providers. Whether you are taking a BT leased line, a CityFibre ethernet service, or a Hyperoptic business connection, our engineers ensure the handover is clean, tested, and documented. We have completed commercial fibre projects for legal firms in the West End, tech startups in Shoreditch, retail headquarters in Knightsbridge, and logistics companies in the Thames Valley corridor. Every project receives the same attention to detail: proper containment, tested terminations, clear documentation, and a tidy site on completion.
Our Process
Site Survey
We audit your existing infrastructure, measure bandwidth requirements and identify optimal cable routes through ceiling voids, risers and external ducting.
Design & Specification
We produce detailed drawings, core assignments and method statements. Specifications are signed off before any installation begins.
Install & Test
Our engineers install fibre with dust-controlled enclosures in occupied spaces. Every strand is tested with Fluke CertiFiber Pro before handover.
Document & Handover
You receive as-built drawings, test reports, patching schedules and a warranty certificate. We remain on call for any post-handover support.

Commercial Fibre FAQs
What fibre types do you install for commercial properties?
We install OM3 and OM4 multimode fibre for internal building backbones and horizontal cabling where distances are under 550 metres. For longer runs between buildings, campuses and data centres, we specify OS2 single-mode fibre that supports distances up to 10 kilometres and beyond. We also install armoured direct-burial fibre for external routes and blown fibre systems for future-proofing multi-tenant office buildings. All installations are tested with a Fluke CertiFiber Pro or DSX-8000 with fibre modules to verify insertion loss, return loss and length against ISO 11801 and TIA-568 standards.
How do you handle fibre installation in occupied office buildings?
We schedule all disruptive works outside normal business hours, typically evenings and weekends, to minimise impact on your operations. Our engineers use dust-controlled enclosures and portable containment systems when working in occupied floor spaces. We coordinate closely with building management and security, and we provide method statements and risk assessments in advance. For open-plan offices, we use existing ceiling voids and trunking routes where possible, and we make good any penetrations with fire-stopping compound that maintains the building compartmentation rating.
Can you connect our office to a leased line or dark fibre provider?
Yes, we manage the entire handover process between your internal fibre infrastructure and the external provider termination point. This includes installing the customer demarcation panel, patching the provider fibre into your internal backbone, and testing the end-to-end link to confirm performance meets the provider specification. We work regularly with BT Openreach, CityFibre, Hyperoptic, Virgin Media Business and numerous leased line carriers. Our engineers understand the specific termination and testing requirements of each provider, ensuring a clean handover with no performance disputes.
What documentation do you provide after a commercial fibre installation?
Every commercial project receives a comprehensive handover pack that includes as-built drawings showing exact cable routes, core assignments and patching schedules, printed test results from the Fluke analyser for each fibre strand, a cable inventory with part numbers and serial numbers, a warranty certificate and maintenance recommendations, and photographic records of all termination panels and splice enclosures. This documentation is essential for future moves and changes, fault diagnosis, and insurance or lease compliance. We also provide the data in electronic format compatible with common cable management software.
Do you install fibre for building management and BMS systems?
Yes, we regularly install fibre backbones for building management systems, access control networks, CCTV backbone rings and energy monitoring systems. These operational technology networks often require physically separate pathways from the corporate IT network for security and resilience. We design and install dedicated fibre rings with resilient routing, ensuring that a single cable break does not take down the entire BMS or security network. Our engineers are experienced working alongside BMS specialists such as Trend, Siemens and Honeywell.
Which London commercial districts do you cover?
We install commercial fibre throughout central London including the City of London, Canary Wharf, Westminster, Southwark and Camden. We also cover the West End, Soho, Fitzrovia and Knightsbridge for media, fashion and retail clients. Beyond central London, we work extensively in the Docklands, Stratford, Croydon and the M25 orbital business parks. In Hertfordshire we serve Watford, St Albans and Hatfield business parks. In Surrey we cover Guildford, Woking and the Thames Valley corridor. We also travel to Slough, Reading and Milton Keynes for larger campus projects.
How long does a typical commercial fibre installation take?
A single-floor office fit-out with a 24-core OM4 backbone and 12 fibre-to-the-desk drops typically takes three to five working days including testing and certification. A multi-floor building with a central equipment room, vertical risers and horizontal distribution on each floor usually requires two to three weeks. Large campus projects with multiple buildings, external ducting and resilience rings can take six to twelve weeks depending on ground works and wayleave permissions. We provide a detailed programme at quotation stage and update it weekly during the project.
