Specialist Termination and Certification for the Industry

Not every contractor has the specialist equipment or trained engineers to handle fibre splicing, precision termination and formal certification testing. Vertex AV provides these services on a subcontract basis to M&E contractors, network installers, data centre builders and smart home integrators who need reliable, certified workmanship without the capital investment in fusion splicers, OTDRs and cable analysers.

Our fibre splicing service covers single-mode and multimode applications using fusion splicing for permanent, low-loss joints and mechanical splicing for rapid deployment or temporary connections. Every splice is housed in an appropriate enclosure, whether that is a wall-mounted fibre panel in a commercial building, an underground splice closure for external routes, or a high-density MPO cassette in a data centre. We carry portable fusion splicers with active cladding alignment that produces consistent splice losses below 0.1dB, and we verify every splice with an OTDR trace before declaring the link complete.

For copper cabling, we terminate Cat6 and Cat6a outlets, patch panels and consolidation points to the relevant standards. Our engineers are trained in proper wire management, strain relief and grounding practices that ensure long-term reliability. Every link is tested with a Fluke DSX-8000 cable analyser, which measures all parameters required for certification: insertion loss, NEXT, return loss, ACR-F, TCL and propagation delay. We do not simply run a basic wire map test: we perform full certification to the standard, because our clients need documentation that satisfies warranty conditions, insurance requirements and client handover processes.

In data centres and AI training facilities around Slough, Docklands and the M25 corridor, we install and terminate the high-density fibre trunks that connect GPU clusters, storage arrays and top-of-rack switches. These environments demand LC duplex, MTP/MPO and CS connector terminations with exacting cleanliness standards. We work in cleanroom conditions where required, using fibre cleaning tools, inspection scopes and dust caps to maintain connector integrity. The cable management in these facilities is as important as the terminations themselves: we route trunks through overhead ladder systems and under raised floors with proper bend radius control, labelling and segregation from power cabling.

We also provide fault-finding and audit services on existing installations. Using OTDR and TDR techniques, we can locate fibre breaks, bend radius violations, dirty connectors and macro-bends in under-floor cabling. For copper networks, we identify opens, shorts, split pairs and crosstalk issues that affect performance. These diagnostic services are valuable for building owners who have inherited cabling of unknown provenance, or for contractors who need to demonstrate that an existing installation meets the specification before adding new equipment. We provide detailed reports with distance-to-fault measurements, photographic evidence and recommended remediation steps.

Our Workflow

How We Work

01

Scope & Mobilise

We review cable schedules, drawings and access requirements, then deploy portable fusion splicers, OTDRs and Fluke analysers to site.

02

Splice & Terminate

Fusion splice single-mode and multimode to <0.1dB loss. Terminate LC, MTP/MPO and RJ45 with full connector inspection.

03

Test & Certify

OTDR trace every fibre path. Fluke DSX certify every copper link. Full parameter testing for warranty-compliant documentation.

04

Document & Handover

PDF test reports, as-built drawings and warranty paperwork delivered within 24 hours. White-label options available for contractors.

Contractor Feedback
"Vertex handled the fibre splicing and Fluke certification for a 288-core backbone we simply didn't have the gear for. Their engineer arrived with a Fujikura splicer and OTDR, worked through the weekend, and handed over flawless test reports Monday morning. We now sub them in on every data centre job."

Common Questions

Splicing & Testing FAQs

What fibre splicing services do you offer for third-party contractors?

We provide fusion splicing services for M&E contractors, data centre builders, network installers and cabling companies who require specialist fibre skills on a subcontract basis. Our services include single-mode and multimode fibre fusion splicing, mechanical splicing for temporary or emergency repairs, ribbon fibre splicing for high-density data centre applications, and mid-span access window splicing for adding drops to existing backbone cables. All splices are housed in appropriate enclosures with strain relief, and we test every splice with an OTDR to confirm insertion loss and locate any faults.

Do you certify Cat6 and Cat6a copper terminations as well as fibre?

Yes, we are a full-service termination and certification contractor for both copper and fibre. For Cat6 and Cat6a, we install RJ45 outlets, patch panels and consolidation points to TIA-568 and ISO 11801 standards. Every copper link is tested with a Fluke DSX-8000 cable analyser to verify NEXT, return loss, insertion loss, ACR-F and all parameters required for the category. We print the test results and provide them in both paper and electronic formats. For data centre projects, we can certify hundreds of links per day with efficient batch testing and labelling workflows.

What data centre and AI facility termination work do you undertake?

We install and terminate fibre in hyperscale data centres, colocation facilities, AI training clusters and enterprise server rooms. This includes LC duplex and MTP/MPO trunk installations for 40Gb, 100Gb and 400Gb applications, structured cabling under raised floors and overhead ladder routes, cable management and routing to ISO 27001 and Tier III standards, and thermal load-aware cable tray design. For AI facilities with high-density GPU clusters, we understand the specific requirements for low-latency, high-throughput fibre paths between compute nodes, storage arrays and network switches.

How do you handle fault finding on existing fibre installations?

Our fault-finding process begins with visual inspection of terminations and patch panels for obvious issues such as dirty connectors, damaged ferrules or loose adaptors. We then use an OTDR to send a light pulse down the fibre, producing a trace that shows distance-to-fault, splice loss, connector loss and bend radius violations. For copper faults, we use the Fluke DSX-8000 to identify opens, shorts, split pairs and crosstalk issues. We can locate faults within one metre and provide a detailed report with recommended remediation. Our fault-finding service is available as an emergency callout or as part of a planned audit.

Which London areas do you cover for splicing and testing contracts?

We provide splicing and testing services throughout Greater London including the City, Canary Wharf, Docklands, Westminster, Camden and Southwark. We travel to Slough, Reading, Crawley and the Thames Valley for data centre contracts. In Hertfordshire we serve Watford, St Albans and Hatfield. In Surrey we cover Guildford, Woking and the M25 corridor. For larger data centre projects we work nationwide. Our engineers carry portable fusion splicers, OTDRs and Fluke analysers in vans that allow us to respond rapidly to urgent callouts across the South East.

What turnaround time can you offer for certification testing on large projects?

For scheduled certification work, we typically require 48 hours notice to deploy the correct testing equipment and allocate engineers. On large data centre projects with hundreds or thousands of links, we assign multiple testing teams working in shifts to maintain progress. A typical rate is 80 to 120 copper certifications per engineer per day, or 40 to 60 fibre links per day depending on complexity. For urgent callouts, we can often have an engineer on site within four hours in central London and six to eight hours in the Home Counties. We provide live progress tracking and daily test result uploads for project managers who need real-time visibility.

Do you provide warranty on your terminations and splices?

Yes, all our terminations and splices carry a 25-year warranty on workmanship and materials when installed using approved components. This warranty is backed by our professional indemnity insurance and is transferable if the property changes ownership. For data centre installations, we offer an enhanced warranty package that includes annual inspection, re-testing and patch cord replacement. Warranty claims are rare because our testing regime catches any marginal terminations before handover, but we respond promptly to any issues that arise.
