Automated Curtains
Elegant drapes, effortless control
Curtains That Glide Open on Command
There is something magical about curtains that open as you wake or close as the sun sets. Our automated curtain installations use whisper-quiet motors and precision track systems that move even the heaviest drapes with grace and silence. Perfect for hard-to-reach windows, large bay windows, or simply adding luxury to your daily routine.
We install Silent Gliss motorised tracks, which are the professional standard for luxury residential applications. Silent Gliss tracks are engineered in Switzerland with precision tolerances that ensure smooth, quiet operation for decades. The track profiles are available in a range of finishes including brushed aluminium, white, and custom colours to complement any interior. For bay windows and curved walls, we use flexible track sections that follow the exact contour of your window.
Smart control adds a new dimension to curtain operation. A single Morning scene can open the bedroom curtains gradually over 10 minutes, simulating sunrise for a gentle wake-up. An Evening scene can close all curtains simultaneously at sunset. A Cinema scene can close the living room curtains and dim the lights with a single button press. Voice control through Alexa and Google Home adds hands-free convenience for moments when your hands are full.

Curtain FAQs
How do motorised curtains work?
Motorised curtains use an electric motor integrated into the curtain track or pole that drives the curtain carrier along the track. The motor receives commands from a wall switch, remote control, smartphone app, or smart home system. Most motors operate on 240V mains power, though battery-powered options are available for retrofit applications. The motor speed and travel limits are programmed during installation to ensure smooth, quiet operation that stops precisely at the open and closed positions.
How quiet are motorised curtain motors?
Modern motorised curtain systems from Silent Gliss and Somfy operate at below 35 decibels, which is quieter than a whisper. This is achieved through precision-engineered DC motors, vibration-dampening track profiles, and carefully lubricated carrier systems. The silence is particularly important in bedrooms where curtains may be operated during the night. We always demonstrate the noise level during your consultation so you can confirm it meets your expectations before installation.
Can motorised curtains handle heavy fabrics?
Yes, professional motorised curtain systems are designed for heavy fabrics. Silent Gliss motorised tracks are rated for curtains up to 100kg per track, accommodating even the heaviest velvet, silk, and lined fabrics. The motor torque is matched to the fabric weight during installation, and the track profile is selected based on the curtain weight and span. For very wide windows or heavy fabrics, we may recommend a centre-opening track with two motors for balanced operation.
Can you motorise my existing curtains?
In many cases, yes. If your existing curtains are on a compatible track, we can retrofit a motor to the existing installation. We assess your current track type, curtain weight, and available power supply during the consultation. If the existing track is not compatible, we replace it with a motorised track while retaining your existing curtains and fabric. This approach is more cost-effective than a complete replacement and preserves your investment in quality fabrics.
Can motorised curtains be integrated with my smart home?
Yes, and this integration is one of the most popular features of our curtain installations. We integrate Silent Gliss and Somfy motorised curtains with Control4, Crestron, and Lutron systems. A Morning scene can open the bedroom curtains gradually over 10 minutes to simulate sunrise. An Evening scene can close all curtains simultaneously at sunset. A Cinema scene can close the living room curtains and dim the lights with a single button press. Voice control through Alexa and Google Home adds hands-free convenience.
What is the difference between motorised curtains and motorised blinds?
Motorised curtains use fabric panels that draw horizontally across the window, providing a soft, draped aesthetic that suits traditional and contemporary interiors. Motorised blinds use rigid or semi-rigid panels that roll, fold, or stack vertically, providing a cleaner, more architectural look. Curtains are generally better for sound absorption and thermal insulation, while blinds offer more precise light control. Many of our clients install both: blinds for daytime light management and curtains for evening privacy and aesthetics.
Which areas do you cover for motorised curtain installation?

In Hertfordshire we serve St Albans, Watford, Rickmansworth, and Harpenden. In Surrey we cover Guildford, Weybridge, Cobham, and the Wentworth Estate.
